Podcast: Argentina 1978

Please share:

My guest is Rhys Richards, whose new book Blood on the Crossbar, explores the story behind the controversial 1978 World Cup, held in – and won by – Argentina. We discuss the background to the tournament, hosted under a military dictatorship, along with the opposition movements to the World Cup around the world. We also discuss the tournament itself, which was controversial on the field and off it, and the legacy of the World Cup.

If you’re interested in football and politics, do please also check out my new book, The Defiant: A History of Football Against Fascism.
