Lisbon-based journalist Filipe d’Avillez spent a season following the Portuguese Cup (Taça de Portugal) to get under the skin of Portuguese football, its fans, culture, history and more.

He has chronicled his journey in a new book, One Thousand Miles to Jamor, ‘Jamor’ being the national stadium where the final takes place each year. On the way, we’ll meet clubs from all corners of Portugal, from the Azores, from the north, and learn about some historical clubs along the way, like the influential Casa Pia Atlético Clube.

It’s a great listen, and we’ve got loads more on groundhopping in Lisbon and the history of Portuguese football, so check those out too.
