Podcast: The History of Football in Africa

Please share:
African stars like Eusebio, Madjer and Weah have made their name in Europe, and in 2010 South Africa hosted the continent’s first World Cup, while Egypt’s Al Ahly is Africa’s most-successful club

Our guest is football historian Peter Alegi, who has researched the history of African football extensively and also coached in South Africa. We explore the roots of football in Africa, how it spread. It’s a story of race, class and national awakening in the post-colonial era. It’s also a story of emigration, politics, and magical World Cup moments.

It’s a fascinating interview, so give it a listen.
