Podcast: Soccer and Society in Dublin

Please share:
Fans of Bohemian FC, Dublin’s oldest surviving football club, pre-match at Dalymount v Shelbourne, Dublin’s second-oldest side

My guest is Dr Conor Curran, a social and cultural historian with a specialism in sport history. Conor’s latest book is Soccer and Society in Dublin: A History of Association Football in Ireland’s Capital. He joins me to discuss the long history of the sport in Dublin – how it got started, who drove the adoption of soccer, what resistance did the sport get from the rugby-playing community and the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in particular. We also cover the emergence of women’s football.
