Our guest is Zach Bigalke, who has researched the oriundi extensively. An oriundo is a player born outside Italy of Italian descent who has played for the national side or is nationalised/eligible to play for an Italian club.
The very first oriundo was Ermanno Aebi, who played twice for the Azzurri in 1920, scoring a hat-trick in his debut against France. One hundred years on, we look at prominent oriundi, their legacy and look at more recent foreign-born players.
