Podcast: Groundhopping in North-Rhine Westphalia

The BayArena, Leverkusen [Credit: Matt Rayns]

We’re joined by serial groundhopper Matt Rayns for a tour around Germany’s most populous region, Nordrhein-Westfalen – North-Rhine Westphalia – which is home to 18 million people and a whole host of football clubs.

We discuss the big names – Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen and FC Schalke 04 – and also some of the other teams in the region, like 1.FC Köln, Fortuna Düsseldorf and VfL Bochum.

This region is great for groundhopping as there’s always something going on in the top two divisions and regional leagues. Other Nordrhein-Westfalen clubs include Arminia Bielefeld, MSV Duisburg, Alemannia Aachen, Rot-Weiß Essen and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, Fortuna Köln and SC Paderborn.

You can follow Matt’s various groundhopping chronicles over on his Facebook page.

You can subscribe the podcast here on iTunes and Soundcloud. Do please leave a review and a rating if you like what we’re doing. We’re always open to suggested topics and improvements, please email us your thoughts.
