What happened to the 14 clubs of the former DDR-Oberliga, East Germany‘s football league top flight, after the reunification of Germany in 1990? Michael Wagg has written a book about just that!
Michael joins us on the podcast to discuss his new book, The Turning Season: DDR-Oberliga Revisited, in which he chronicles his travels visiting those 14 clubs and looking at the fortunes of the teams of the former East Germany (DDR).
For those who remember the fall of the Berlin Wall – the Mauerfall – and the former East Germany, this is a huge nostalgia trip. And if you’re not familiar with the story of the former DDR, then have a listen and learn some incredible history.
Michael’s second book is a co-authored novel about two players from Dulwich Hamlet and Altona 93 – Edgar & Adolf – and is out early next year.
*Disclaimer: I also have a book out with the same publisher, Pitch, in April 2021. You can learn more about that here.
