Podcast: The Rise of Icelandic Football

Matt McGinn’s Against the Elements includes some incredible photography from Joseph Fox

We welcome Matt McGinn back onto the podcast to talk about his new book, Against the Elements: The Eruption of Icelandic Football. How has a country with such a small population and no diaspora to speak of managed to punch above its weight on the international stage in recent years? We discuss everything from the Icelandic work ethic to coaching methods, overseas players, and, of course, the Thunderclap.

Matt made several visits to Iceland while researching the book and even spent time on a fishing trawler watching the 2018 World Cup with local fishermen. The book includes some stunning photography from Joseph Fox.
