In the very first season of the Football League, 1888-89, Preston North End went the league season unbeaten plus won the FA Cup without conceding a single goal en route.

The team became the first team to win the English league and cup double and were immortalised as ‘The Invincibles’. No other team would go the league season undefeated until Arsenal in 2003-4.

The story of The Invincibles has been captured in a graphic novel by Preston North End fan, Michael Barrett, illustrated by David Sque of Roy of the Rovers fame.

We caught up with Michael to discuss the true story of The Invincibles, what made them so special, what happened to them after the double win, and how he researched to create the book.
