I welcome Gary Thacker back onto the podcast to discuss his upcoming book on the history of Dutch football. Beautiful Bridesmaids Dressing in Oranje charts the history of Dutch football, particularly its tumultuous international experience since the 1970s. Gary puts some of the Dutch World Cup runs into perspective and we also look at the rise of the ‘big three’ in the Netherlands, Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV.
Disclaimer: Gary and I share the same publisher for this title, Pitch Publishing. If you’re interested in the roots of the Dutch game, you might also be interested in my book, Origin Stories: The Pioneers Who Took Football to the World, which take a country-by-country look at how Association rules football got going in all the major soccer-playing nations.
